Best Ever Umm Ali Recipe|‎أم على‎|Traditional Egyptian Dessert|Eid-Ul-Adha-Special|Atika's Cuisine Om Ali, Omali, Umm Ali, Oumm Ali or أم على, meaning "Mother of Ali", is a traditional Egyptian dessert, and is a national dessert of Egypt. The dish, which is traced back to the early years of Egypt's Mamluk era, is named after the wife of the Sultan of Egypt who asked her cooks to come up with the most delicious dessert that they could create. The chosen recipe was distributed throughout the country, and became a national dish of Egypt. Typically, puff pastry is divided into pieces and blended with pistachios, coconut flakes, raisins and plenty of sugar. Milk, sometimes with cream, is poured over the mixture, which is then sprinkled with cinnamon. Finally, the mixture is baked in the oven until the surface is golden brown. Happy Eid! :) |Umm Ali Recipe| |Ingredients| Puff Pastry 100gm Milk 2.5 cups Cream 1/2 cup Sugar 1/4 cup Cinnamon Powder 1/8 tsp Almonds & Pistachios 1/4 cup (Crushed) |Method| 1. In a pan, Add 2.5 cups of milk. 2. Now add fresh cream. 3. Now add brown sugar. 4. Now add cinnamon powder. 5. Stir, And put over medium to high heat till hot. 6. Pre heat the oven at 190 degrees celsuis. 7. In the baking tray, sprinkle a pinch of salt over the puff pastry. 8. Sprinkle pistachios and almonds. (You can use any nuts as per your liking) 9. Once the milk is hot, pour evenly over the puff pastry. 10. Bake it for 15 minutes into the oven till golden. 11. Let it rest and serve warm. 12. Enjoy! :)
